Jeff Rothenbecker has been named the athlete of the month for February.  Jeff joined the Wreck Room community in August 2014 and brought a great deal of raw strength and athleticism with him.  It’s always fun to watch Jeff in the gym on heavy days.  As a man who works in two different AA County police departments and a baby due shortly he kept with the regimen and made sure to get the workouts done and results recorded at work.  This is a whole different level of commitment and work ethic.

February was Jeff’s busiest month in the gym and it showed.  He is now performing workouts at an Rx+ level which is designed for those with the ability to compete.  We saw the most progress with his cardio and gymnastics movements and really becoming an overall excellent CrossFit athlete.  It goes without saying that Jeff is one of the top athletes at Wreck Room and just continues to get better.  No matter what the workout is he can give anyone a run for their money.  Jeff is the ideal CrossFit athlete for any gym.  He is one of the most polite and humble athletes I have seen in any sport.  He is good but never gloats.  He is focused but also coach-able.  He is intense but safe.  He pushes everyone around him to be better.

Jeff is your all American guy and a true pleasure to have in the gym.  If you haven’t had the chance to meet and get to know Jeff you are truly missing out.  Learn a little more about him below.

Tell us who you are?

My name is Jeff Rothenbecker. I’m 30 years old and I live here in Anne Arundel County. I’m a Police Officer with the Anne Arundel County Police Department, assigned to our K-9 unit and Quick Response Team. My wife and I are expecting our first child in April.

What made you decide to get started with Wreck Room CrossFit?
I’ve been working out now for over 15 years. I’ve been on a consistent routine for the past five years. During those five years, I’ve tried a few CrossFit workouts on my own and really enjoyed the results I got.

I met Butch through some friends at Golds Gym and learned he was opening his own CrossFit gym. Once Wreck Room open, I decided to make CrossFit my primary workout routine. I’ve been a member of Wreck Room since August 2014.

What is your favorite part of Wreck Room CrossFit and is there one particular favorite moment that stands out to you?

I like the variety of the workouts that the coaches come up with. It’s been said before and I’ll say it again, I have never done the same workout since I’ve been a member of Wreck Room.
The favorite moment for me is the new friendships and few STALKERS I’ve made. I also enjoy pushing others to complete a workout or set a new PR.

What was your activity level prior to starting at Wreck Room CrossFit?

As a kid I was very active with sports. Mainly played football and baseball. But I also tried soccer, basketball, lacrosse and wrestling. During high school, I signed up for weight training classes every semester.
After high school, I became a member of Golds Gym and worked out there before I joined Wreck Room.

How has Wreck Room CrossFit helped you outside of the gym?

I’m in the best shape of my life right now. As a Police Officer I need to be in shape and I also need to keep up with my K-9 partner.
Also, every year I’m a part of a team that competes against several other teams from other Police Departments and Military units in an Endurance Competition. The Endurance Competition is a test of strength, endurance, teamwork and mental toughness. In 2013 our team finished 5th out of 32 teams and in 2014 we finished 1st out of 29 teams. I contribute my performance in 2014 to the CrossFit workouts I did at Wreck Room.

Tell us about your progress throughout the month of February?

During February, I’ve been able to Rx+ majority of the workouts. Also, I completed all three of the workouts from the 2014 CrossFit Open preparing myself for the workouts in this years CrossFit open.

What are your favorite and least favorite movements or workout?

Favorite- Deadlifts, Power Cleans, Snatches, Wall balls and anything Shoulder to Over Head.

Least Favorite-  Double-unders and toes-to-bar have been driving me crazy lately. I will add muscles-ups in there too since I haven’t been able to get one yet.

What advice would you give to anyone looking to get started at Wreck Room CrossFit?

The coaches at Wreck Room do a really good job at focusing at the beginners and the members are also very helpful. So there is no need to be intimidated. If your looking to get in the best shape of your life or try something new, give CrossFit a try and do it at Wreck Room.

Anything else you want to add?
THANK YOU Butch, Colin and Chelsea. Your time, effort and coaching is really making a huge impact on peoples lives.
